Well I know I'm behind on my "Mondays". Actually, I'm more behind in reporting it, I've been doing them. On Friday I hope to have more than 10 minutes to think, and I will get all updated.
CrossFit Today
Warm Up
200m run
skip x25
x5 frog series
WOD
(I forget what it was called- but it was brutal.) We had to do as many reps as possible in each station. We were at each station for 1 minute, we then immediately moved to the next station. We did three rounds of each of the 5 stations.
Sprint (about 40 yards)
SA KB alt swings (10lb)
Dips!!!
Row (counting calories)
Sledge Hits (kinda fun!)
In 15 minutes I did a total of 133. And considering the first two rounds I did a grand total of 2 dips, that wasn't so bad.
I did run in my five-fingers. I don't think I'll be running long distances in them, but they work for the stuff we do at CrossFit. -- no shock absorption!--
I then did 23 burpees and decided that Friday or Saturday, when I don't have a crossfit workout to kill me, I'll do my make-up 20.
When I got home from class I went for a hike to scout out part of the trail. (3k in 30:52) --with rain!
**Frustrated. I've taken roughly 10 college math classes in my life. I have ONE this session that has had me near tears in 2 of the last 3 classes. I'm so frustrated in it. I think there are a few reasons -- 1.) The professor is Indian and hard to understand. 2.) He assumes we are all math geniuses that remember EVERYTHING about geometry (the class I took in 2002) and how to prove everything. 3.) He's never taught this class before and it's not "his cup of tea" ugh. I have exactly 10 more days. I know I can do it. I'm just overly frustrated and I need to STOP taking out my frustration on myself (in the form of Wendy's Toffee Frosties).
Test Results -- as handed back 62/100 (I defended my answers to earn back another 16 points) right now I have 78/100 if I do my corrections I can get up to an 89. grr.
I've been claiming that I'm going to bed early for the last 2 weeks. Tonight I am. Now. 9:22 PM (Ok I'll give myself until 9:30)
G'night
I also found something that I truly found delicious... only to realize it's probably not really that good for me. ... turkey bacon. Darn.
Monday 5: Eat Healthy
According to their website, almost 700 BILLION dollars is spent on caring for diseases caused by unhealthy eating habits and "diet" aids to help fix it!
WOW. That's a lot of money. I know I've spent my share on diet aids in the past.
Their recommendations: Well, eat lots of fruits and veggies. Eat more fiber (whole grains). Eat more slowly -- so you have time to realize you're full.
The last little tip they give is the best one and I believe I may need to make it larger -- print it somewhere, where I can see it everyday. It seems like the best advice I've gotten in a long time.
Monday 4: Prepare for an Emergency.
You never know when an emergency will strike. They recommend creating an emergency supply kit.
Just the other day I mentioned these ideas to my Dad. Maybe we'll actually get this together this summer.
The one other activity they recommend is a Family Communication Plan. This is when you choose a family or friend who lives outside the area that everyone in the family will call to "check in" with in case of an emergency. By calling someone out of the area, you have a better chance of getting a hold of them. I recommended my cousin in California.
Hopefully with the help of my parents we can finalize some of these plans this summer.
Monday 3: Have AMBER alerts sent to you.
This is easy enough. There are now ways to get AMBER alerts from email and texts.
I never knew what AMBER meant. I mean I associated it with the color - yellow is a warning color, but it actually stands for:
America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response
Plus it was named after a girl named Amber who had gone missing.
You can read more interesting stats on their webpage (click the first sentence in the post). But I have also included the links to the downloads if you would like to do them.
Get AMBER alert text messages sent to your cell phone.
Download the AMBER alert ticker for your computer.
Week 2: Turn Off TV
This week's goal is to turn off the tv and live in the real world more. This is definitely something I need to do.
I've of course adapted this to be more fitting. So here's what I've decided.
For the next week (possibly more) I will only watch my shows if they are NEW. Or if I am actively doing something else -- like working on school work - or blogging -- like I am right now. I'm even watching a NEW episode while typing.
Shows on the OK list (if NEW episode):
- Burn Notice
- Law & Order (CSI)
- Greek
- In Plain Sight
- Mentalist
- NCIS
- Jeopardy
- Bones
Monday 1 - What Matters Most
Tasks
1. Stop and Think -- make a list of what matters most.
2. Create a list of how you spend your time.
3. Organize the list by priority
4. Rearrange your schedule to match your priorities
5. Don't waste time.
For starters - #5 will be my hardest -- I've realized I waste a lot of time, I don't mean to, I have the best of intentions, but nevertheless I waste a lot of time.
Task 1: What matters to me. What would I like to spend my time on.
- I would love to spend time with family and friends, doing fun things, not just sitting around watching tv.
- I would like to do what I need to to be a successful teacher
- I would like to spend more time doing volunteer work - I miss Circle K
- I want to take more pictures -- for fun... of things I like -- go hiking to exotic places to take pictures, catch that great lightning bolt, etc.
- I want to spent time working out, golfing, getting fit, etc.
- Time spent at work(school): 41 hours
- Time spent in my car: 12 hours
- Time spent in class: 6 hours
- Time spent sleeping: 42 hours
- Time spent on work -- outside of work: 10 hours
- Time spent watching tv -- and nothing else*: 2 hours (*I usually work on stuff on the computer while watching tv)
- Time spent with family and friends: <10>
In order:
- Workout, golf, etc
- Time with family, friends
- Volunteer Work
- Career
- Hobbies -- including photography, hiking, skating, scrapbooking
As I said, since classes ended I have some time to re-arrange things, however classes start again June 15. At that time, due to my desire to pursue my other goals later this summer, I need to have classes at a top priority. Right now I will say that I am leaving school as soon as I can, I'm making sure I workout and blog about it. I'm making sure I do my "Mondays" and I'm going to try to figure out how to work the rest in. I won't have much free time in June and July.
Task 5: Don't waste time. This is a toughy but I'll work on it. =) for the record, I don't consider blogging a waste of time. I have found that I do better with health concerns (losing weight, eating better, working out) if I blog about them.
